Montreal, September 6, 2017 - The National Trail in Quebec (SNQ) reaches 1,650 km of linear route thanks to the International Appalachian Trail - Quebec (SIA-QC).
With its 650 km, the SIA-QC already offers hikers to cross and discover the Gaspé Peninsula from Matapedia to Gaspé. By joining the National Trail and its 1000 km of trails, this route has now totaled 1650 km, the initiative of which dates back over 30 years!
The first long-distance trail to receive GR status in the country, the SIA (or GR-A1) is a reflection of the ambitious projects that Rando Québec is currently developing on the National Trail route which, it should be remembered, crosses no less than 9 tourist regions; the Outaouais, the Laurentians, Lanaudière, the Mauricie, Quebec, Charlevoix, Manicouagan, the Bas-Saint-Laurent and the Gaspé Peninsula.
With the collaboration of a renowned organization like SIA-QC, Rando Québec continues the work started with the French Hiking Federation. Together, we are working on the adoption of the acronym GR (long distance hike) on the various sections of the SNQ as well as the promotion of recreational tourism products on and around the trails.
The hiker can already find services on the SIA and several sectors of the SNQ such as accommodation, luggage transport, vehicle transport, autoguiding or guidance in order to allow everyone to discover Quebec differently by going on an adventure on foot.
Did you know?
Contrary to popular belief, the National Trail in Quebec (SNQ) is not part of the Trans Canada Trail, which offers a multi-sport route that crosses Canada. Unlike the latter, the National Trail is only used by hikers and is only done on trails. Its markup is also distinct.

LITTLE HISTORY
It was in the 1970s that the first outdoor enthusiasts in the country expressed the desire to see the birth of a path that would link the Pacific to the Atlantic. In 1971, Douglas Campbell of the Canadian Hiking Association took action, eventually creating in 1977 the Canadian National Trail Association (Hike Canada En Marche) and in 1988, the first section was inaugurated in Ottawa. In 1990, Rando Québec was entrusted with the care of the National Trail in Quebec and the same year several trails in Lanaudière and the Laurentians were inaugurated.
